Responsibilities

The Director of Graduate and Professional Studies serves as the primary contact for Virginia Tech Engineering Online (VTEO) and all new COE educational initiatives through engagement with faculty, staff, and students to advance learning goals and experiences. In her role as the VT Director of Cardinal Education (a 6-member consortium of top Engineering Schools in the State), Alicia leads the COE's Graduate and Professional Studies partnership with consortium members to facilitate enhanced access and student enrollment in the College's online courses. To further advance graduate education, Alicia is working closely with departments to streamline operations, develop processes, and support program initiatives aligned with the College’s strategic goals. Alicia is also working collaboratively with the Grad School and COE to actively explore opportunities to support graduate students in applying for national fellowships, grants, and scholarships.

Education

Alicia holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (with an emphasis on Instructional Design and Technology) from Virginia Tech and a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from Wilkes University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Mary Washington.

Background

Alicia joined us from Virginia Tech's School of Education (SOE) where she served several years as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) graduate program and also managed the SOE Educational Technology Lab. While at the SOE, Alicia created internship opportunities for the IDT graduate students providing novice instructional designers service-learning opportunities with community partners from business, non-profit, and higher education sectors. Alicia has over 10 years of experience designing, developing, teaching, and evaluating online courses in both undergraduate and graduate learning environments.
