Nicole Akers

Responsibilities

Nicole serves as the Assistant Director for the Office of Research and Innovation. Her focus is on the implementation of the college’s strategic plan to increase transdisciplinary research awards and grow partnerships with industry. Responsible for supporting the development and administration of large-scale proposals, engagement and outreach activities, and data management and analysis.  

Education

Nicole holds a bachelor of science in counseling and a master of education in higher education leadership.

Background

Nicole joined the Virginia Tech community in 2015. She transitioned to the Office of the University Registrar in 2017 where she served as the Governance Coordinator, responsible for the university’s curriculum and curriculum review processes. She joined the College of Engineering in 2021.
