The GEER office provides resources to faculty to support international programs, research and partnerships.

Virginia Tech Policy 1070: Global Travel Policy requires all university-supported travelers — including faculty, staff and students — to register their international travel prior to departure. A full list of requirements and instructions are available at this page: https://travel.controller.vt.edu/. Please contact Global Safety & Risk Management at vtglobalsafety@vt.edu with any questions.

If any emergencies arise while abroad, Elizabeth Morrison, Associate Director for Global Safety & Risk Management, is the primary point of contact for all students and faculty abroad.

If you are a Virginia Tech employee on a work visa (such as H-1B, TN, O-1, etc.), Global Strategic Services (GSS) is available to assist with any questions or concerns before your travel. For any international students (undergraduate or graduate) planning to travel abroad, please refer them to the Cranwell International Center for guidance if they have any concerns.

  • The College has a process for initiating new partnerships and agreements, which requires that the initiating faculty member propose a new agreement. With this information, our office will advise on the type of agreement needed, draft and finalize the agreement in collaboration with the proposed partner institution, and submit it for review and approval.

Faculty and staff are key to the success of study abroad programs in the College of Engineering. If you are interested in developing a faculty-led program for engineering students, please contact Nicole Sanderlin to discuss your ideas, program design, proposal process, and timeline. More information is also available at these links:

Engaging in international research experiences allows students to grow as engineers, develop a global perspective, and gain hands-on research skills that are invaluable for their academic and professional journeys.
