Responsibilities
Ed is responsible for all the financial and operational affairs of the College of Engineering. He also serves as chief of staff for the dean, with responsibility for making sure that new initiatives are implemented and that policy matters are addressed.
Education
Ed received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1994. His area of research was infrared radiation heat transfer analysis of jet engine exhaust plumes.
Background
Beginning in 1991, Ed worked at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA in the area of experimental infrared radiation heat transfer. From 1996 to 1999, he worked for a small company at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center where he served as the Principal Investigator on a large contract sponsored by the Naval Air Warfare Center in China Lake, CA that studied the heat flux of solid rocket plumes. He has been with Virginia Tech since 1999.
