Scholarship Application for Returning Engineering Students

To apply for College of Engineering scholarships (both college level and department level awards), please log in to Scholarship Central and look for College of Engineering opportunities. Note this application opens the first day of spring semester (January 19, 2021) classes, and closes March 1, 2021.

An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher by the end of Spring 2021 will be considered competitive for the majority of scholarships, though some scholarships do require a higher GPA.

Anyone who hopes to receive a college scholarship MUST submit this application. Even if you have received a scholarship in past years that's renewable based on your GPA alone, you still must submit the application by the deadline listed above in order to be eligible for any additional departmental or college-level funding.

Please note the application includes an essay which must be cut and pasted into a text box. Recognize that incomplete applications (i.e. those lacking essays) will not be considered. Essays must be limited to 500 words. The essay topic is:

Identify the one technological advancement in the past century you feel had the greatest impact on society? (Depth of thinking, clarity, and conciseness will be considered when reviewing your essay.)

Scholarship amounts vary from $500 for one year to $,5000+ year and some are renewable for up to three years. Some sponsors request personal interviews; others allow the dean's office or departmental scholarship committees to select scholarship recipients.

To be considered for University level scholarship awards, students must complete the  University’s Scholarship Application, due by January 22, 2021. Many university level scholarships require a demonstration of financial need as determined by the FAFSA; thus, we strongly encourage you to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the University’s priority deadline of March 1, 2021.

Most College of Engineering scholarship awards will be made by July 1. Notifications will be sent to ALL applicants' Virginia Tech email accounts by July 1, whether a college-level award is granted or not, so please check accordingly.
