Engineering Orientation: Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration

Virtual academic advising and course registration is a series of modules, events, and meetings designed to support you as you transition to college and is required for all new engineering students. This experience is in addition to the University First-Year and Transfer Fall Orientation. An outline of the process is below. If you have questions about Engineering Orientation, email Dr. Marlena Lester, Director of Advising (marlenal@vt.edu).

Engineering Orientation Timeline:

1. May 1 - June 12: Complete the engineering orientation checklist items
2. May 8: Received the College of Engineering Orientation Welcome email
3. June 5: Receive details for mandatory virtual one-on-one academic advising for your major
4. June 12 - July 28: Attend mandatory virtual one-on-one academic advising for your major, dates vary by major (this can be done after you begin registering for courses)
5. June 12 - August 25: Register for Fall 2023 courses (this will be an ongoing process through the summer and can begin prior to meeting with an academic advisor)
6. June 14 - July 26: Attend one of the mandatory virtual COE overview sessions (schedule below)
7. June 14 - July 26: Attend optional virtual COE Q&A sessions (schedule below)

Advance registation will not be required for any of these sessions. You only need to attend one of these virtual dates (all Wednesdays):
June 14, 21, 28, & July 12, 19, or 26
