The College of Engineering at Virginia Tech is excited to welcome our newest Hokies!

students with an engineering flag

Orientation is a series of events designed to support you as you transition to college and is required for all new students.  As a new engineering student, you will attend a university orientation session and a separate engineering orientation.

University Orientation

During your university-level orientation session, you will learn about university services, resources, and meet with current students to have your questions answered about student life at Virginia Tech. Our goal is to give you the information you need to feel comfortable and confident to begin your journey as a Hokie. Spring Orientation begins January 14, 2022. Be sure to sign up. Check your Virginia Tech email after you accept your offer of admissions for a registration link.

If you have questions about spring orientation, email New Student and Family Programs at

Engineering Orientation - Virtual Advising and Course Registration

During the Engineering Orientation session, you will virtually attend an engineering overview session, learn about engineering resources and support, virtually meet with an academic advisor, and enroll in classes for the upcoming semester.

If you have questions about Engineering Orientation, email Dr. Marlena Lester, Director of Advising, at

1. Complete the Engineering Orientation Checklist
The Engineering Orientation Checklist will guide you through several items you need to complete, including enrolling in our 2-factor authentication system, completing the pre-engineering form, sending your official test scores and transcripts, and preparing for class registration. Completion of these items allows our advising team to have everything ready for you and will provide you with the necessary access to our systems.

2. Complete the Engineering Pre-Orientation Form — Deadline: December 5
The Engineering Pre-Orientation Form is critical for our engineering onboarding process and only accessible once you accept your offer of admission. You must be logged into your Virginia Tech google account to complete the form. If you receive the following message "You need permission" you will need to sign out of your non-VT Gmail account and log into your VT Gmail account at

There is a unique form for first-year students and transfer students. Each form is designed to assist our advising team with evaluating any transfer credits you may have, understanding special programming you may be participating in (e.g., living-learning communities, corps of cadet, etc.), and ultimately determining the appropriate courses for your first term of enrollment.

Complete the pre-orientation form specific to your admissions type by December 5.

You will not be able to request an advising appointment until December 6.
