Tips, tricks, and recommendations for Identity Finder
- Include Data of Birth, Driver License, and Bank Account numbers in your scan. By default only SSNs, CCNs, and passwords are scanned for.
- Delete old files and folders rather than just scrubbing them. Use the Shred button to delete any unnecessary files (keeping in mind the data retention policy).
- The Scrub button only works with the new Microsoft Office formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) and text files (.txt, .log, .ini). All other files will need to be manually scrubbed by double clicking on the file in Identity Finder.
- Some data can be hard to find when manually scrubbing. If it’s a spreadsheet, ensure that all columns are visible with the unhide command. Try looking for embedded spreadsheets in PowerPoint files.
- Once you have finished cleaning a directory, scan it again to make sure you got everything.
- Scan the departmental network shares.
- Scan your personal network share.
