Kira Harrison
Kira Harrison, a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech, is a dedicated and driven student. With a GPA of 3.54, Kira demonstrates her commitment to academic excellence. Hailing from Arlington, Virginia, she brings her passion for engineering to the close-knit community at Virginia Tech, particularly within the Black engineering community, which she greatly appreciates.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Kira finds joy in various hobbies. She enjoys playing volleyball, basking in the sun's warm embrace, and indulging in the pleasure of reading. Kira's taste in music leans towards the energetic beats of Dancehall.
When it comes to role models, Kira looks up to her mother for her accomplishments, humility, and strength. It is her mother's influence that has shaped Kira into the determined and resilient individual she is today. In her formative years, Kira dreamed of becoming a paleontologist, but now, as a Virginia Tech student, she envisions herself designing and constructing sustainable cities in the future.
Kira actively engages with CEED (Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity) and the College of Engineering. She takes advantage of the resources provided by CEED to support her engineering journey. Additionally, Kira is involved in engineering clubs such as the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), where she collaborates with like-minded peers and expands her network.
Outside of her academic and extracurricular pursuits, Kira dedicates her time to various volunteer services. She participates in the Student African American Sisterhood Service Committee, contributes to Habitat for Humanity, volunteers at an animal shelter, assists at a Food Assistance Center, engages in voter registration with the NAACP, and takes part in NSBE PCI (Pre-College Initiative).
Kira Harrison's determination, community involvement, and passion for engineering make her a standout member of the Virginia Tech family. With her eyes set on building sustainable cities and a commitment to making a difference, Kira is poised to make a positive impact in the world of civil and environmental engineering.
