“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” -Gandhi

Milan Lowe is from Manassas, Virginia, and is a sophomore in Aerospace Engineering with a 3.46 GPA. She says the best thing about being a Virginia Tech engineering student is the atmosphere that the students learn. Whether it’s bouncing off ideas from your classmates or having intellectual conversations with professors, she thinks the space in which the students can expand their thought processes is one of a kind. When Milan was in middle school, she dreamt about being a teacher because of the impacts some of her middle school teachers had on her. Now that she is at Virginia Tech, she dreams about working for NASA one day. If she could change one thing, it would be the ability to get an education because the cost of education is only increasing and the opportunities are decreasing.

Currently, she is involved with CEED by being a mentee her freshman year, and is now a CEED Mentor. As a volunteer service, she joined a service fraternity where they spend their time giving back to the community each week through service. Some locations include 3 birds berry farm, the human society, trash pickups around campus, the big event, the Virginia living museum, and trail work in various locations. In her free time, she enjoys playing piano, listening to music, drawing, and hanging out with her friends.

Milan mentioned that her role model is her mom because she always supports and understands her passions while showing her the impact that a hard worker can take on anything. Milan also says her favorite cartoon character is Popeye because she used to watch each cartoon religiously when she was in elementary school. She says she has good memories attached to Popeye.
