"Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection." - Mark Twain

Jonathan Granados West is from Annandale, Virginia, and is a junior in Computer Science with a 4.0 GPA. He says the best thing about being a Virginia Tech Engineer is the great community and being surrounded by people with similar interests and aspirations, yet a wide variety of perspectives and backgrounds. When Jonathan was in middle school, he dreamed about being an engineer or an architect. Now that Jonathan is at Virginia Tech, he dreams about using his degree to be a software engineer and create software products that will be widely useful to people. He mentions that if he could change one thing, he would have people take time to listen and understand the perspectives of those they disagree with.

Currently, he is involved in Appalachian trail maintenance trips with the Outdoor Club at Virginia Tech as a volunteer opportunity. He also participated in Galileo, which is the Living Learning Community for engineering students.

Jonathan says his role model is his father because his father demonstrates diligence and hard work in all that he does. Jonathan states, “ His work ethic has motivated me to put my best work into all that I do.” Jonathan also says that his favorite cartoon characters are Merlin and Archimedes from the Sword in the Stone because he enjoyed their banter and lessons as a kid.
