Jacolby Washington
Jacolby Washington is a junior in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a 3.47 GPA, and is from Milford, Virginia. He thinks the best thing about being a VT Engineer is feeling that you are being trained by some of the best teachers in the field and knowing the fact that you are in a highly ranked program. He also appreciates the additional focus on things outside of academics that the Engineering department provides, such as numerous professional development and networking opportunities. In middle school, Jacolby dreamed about being a roller coaster engineer and is still pretty interested in roller coasters. Now beyond Virginia Tech, Jacolby dreams to make a noted difference in the effort to renovate and restore America's infrastructure. He has always been infatuated with roadways and architecture since he was a child.
Jacolby is currently a Mentor Liaison for the Galipatia Living Learning Community where he helps mentors in the community find new ways to interact with their mentees and give them tips to help with the process of transition into college. He is also often volunteering for PCI (Pre College Initiative) with the National Society of Black Engineers here at Virginia Tech, where engineering related activities are performed with middle and high school students to help them better understand specific engineering practices and fields.
Not having one specific person to model himself after, Jacolby attempts to model himself after many great people in his family, who have put family first, and his favorite athlets who have persevered through great struggles.
Outside of classes, Jacolby enjoys to chill and play video games, go to the gym, and watch football and basketball. Jacolby's favorite cartoon character is SpongeBob and feels the entire show is timeless. He still enjoys watching SpongeBob as an adult, and doesn't feel like he can say that about many of the cartoons he use to watch.
