"In racing, they say that your car goes where your eyes go. The driver who cannot tear his eyes away from the wall as he spins out of control will meet that wall; the driver who looks down the track as he feels his tires break free will regain control of his vehicle." - The Art of Racing in the Rain, Garth Stein

Ilan Chueca is from Midlothian, VA and is a Junior in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a GPA of 3.93. Ilan says the best thing about being a VT Engineer is meeting all the wonderful people at Virginia Tech. In the future, Ilan would like to study or work abroad to be able to see and learn more about the world. If he could change anything about Virginia Tech, it would be to make the drillfield less windy!

Ilan has been involved in SHPE for the past two years and was a CEED mentee his freshman year at Virginia Tech. Currently Ilan is participating in his first year with the Seismic Design Team, and previously he participated in the Baja SAE Team. Additionally, Ilan loves volunteering at the Big Event.

Ilan has five cats (Sophie, Kali, Karenza, Baci, and Little Grey) and three birds (Bolivar, Qaska, and Picasso). He enjoys playing guitar, riding motorcycles, sailing, and cooking.

Ilan's role models are his parents because they work so hard and always have his back. His favorite movie is Hunt for the Red October because he used to watch it all the time with his dad. Prince Zuko from Avatar the Last Airbender is Ilan's favorite cartoon character because he has such a great character arc.
