"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.' - Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Amber Amos is a senior, from Silver Spring, MD, majoring in Computer Science and Cybersecurity and currently has a 3.58 GPA. Amber thinks the best thing about being a Virginia Tech Engineer is being surrounded by students who share a passion for innovation. She finds that Virginia Tech also provided her with an abundant amount of resources to build her network, experience new education opportunities - such as hackathons, career fairs, etc. - and relevant education in regards to today's industry.

Amber has been a member of the Galipatia community since her freshman year. Starting out as a Hypatian, she joined the Galipatia Leadership Team her sophomore year as a mentor and Studio Training Committee Member. As a comittee member, Amber led Laser Cutting Training in Hoge Hall's inVenTs Studio. Since her junior year, Amber has been one of the liaisons for the Studio Training Committee. As the committee lead, she helps create and deliver a topical lecture series for committee members, provides training assistance and guidance, with a focus on Laster Cutter, and reinforces studio safety standards.

Since Amber's sophomore year, she has been a Computer Science Ambassador and assists the Computer Science department with yearly recruiting efforts, such as information sessions, open houses, hosting company representatives, and assisting with career fairs. Each spring since 2018, Amber has been a member of the Women's Preview Weekend Committee and helped design, plan, and conduct a two-day weekend experience for female applicants admitted to the College of Engineering.

Amber attended a magnet middle school with a curriculum focus on technology, this led to her dream to becoming a computer scientist. Amber's mother has inspired her to always strive to do her best and go after her dreams, as her mom has done for herself. Another dream of Amber's is to live abroad for a few years. If Amber could change one thing, she would improve access to education, especially for the advancement of women and girls, who wish to continue their education but are oftentimes hindered by economic, cultural, and geographical barriers.

Outside of being an engineering student at Virginia Tech, Amber enjoys playing/walking with her dog, Cache, binging the latest show on Netflix, and running and going to the gym. Her favorite film is Titanic, she enjoys a variety of music, and her favorite cartoon character is Linda Belcher (Bob's Burgers) because she remains optimistic about life.
