Jeremiah Essandoh
Jeremiah Essandoh is from Newport News, Virginia, and is currently a freshman with a GPA of 3.70 and looks to go into Aerospace Engineering next year, and is also majoring in Bass Performance. He says the best thing about being a Virginia Tech engineer is the amount of opportunity that there is to practice engineering, through service, before starting professional careers. When he was in middle school, he aspired to become an engineer just so he could make cool things for a living. Now that he is at Virginia Tech, he dreams about developing cool aerospace technologies that will enable humanity to travel the cosmos more often. Jeremiah said if he could change one thing, it would be to add an hour or two extra to each day.
Since Jeremiah has been at Virginia Tech, he’s been a member of Galipatia Living Learning community, and is planning to return next fall as both an Upperclass Leader and mentor. He volunteers as a musician for Virginia Tech Chi Alpha, and for CEED outreach events whenever the opportunity arises. In his free time, Jeremiah likes to play music, develop and play video games, and more recently, reading.
Jeremiah says his role models are his parents because they define what it is to be hardworking regardless of any circumstance a person could find themselves in. The lives his parents continue to live inspires him to serve more, work harder, and stay on course in times of difficulty. Jeremiah has two brothers (“shoutout to Sam and Josh!"). He also mentioned that his favorite cartoon character is Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender because of how Zuko grew throughout the series. From being obsessed over catching the Avatar because he thought it was what he needed to do—to seizing his own destiny and atoning for the sins from his past, he shows that everyone has the opportunity to choose to be better. Jeremiah also shared that his favorite genre of music is Jazz.
