Marina Yamamoto Borges (She/Her) is a Freshman pursuing a B.S. in General Engineering, with an intended focus on Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. With a stellar GPA of 4.0, Marina hails from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Marina is deeply appreciative of the exceptional support and facilities available at Virginia Tech, which she finds instrumental in her academic journey. She has one younger brother and enjoys a range of hobbies including drawing, reading, cooking, playing soccer, chess, video games, and spending time with friends and family.

Inspired by her mother, who broke barriers in engineering 30 years ago, Marina aspires to work in programming and technology. Her initial dream was to become a scientist dedicated to lab research and discoveries. At Virginia Tech, she is actively involved with CEED, having participated in a CEED group during her first semester which helped her acclimate to the university environment.

Marina's commitment to volunteer service includes her seven-year involvement as a scout in Brazil, where she engaged in various social services such as helping those in need and promoting charitable campaigns.

If she could change one thing, Marina would foster greater empathy among people, believing that a more empathetic world would lead to significant positive change.
