Joshua Essandoh
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Joshua Essandoh is a first-year Computer Engineering student at Virginia Tech with a 3.71 GPA. Hailing from Newport News, VA, Joshua is passionate about the welcoming Hokie community that spans across the globe, making him feel at home no matter where he is. With two siblings, Samuel and Jeremiah, Joshua enjoys hobbies like sports, music, and laser tag, and supports teams such as Chelsea, the Thunder, and the Bulls. His favorite cartoon characters are Mordecai and Rigby from Regular Show for their relatability and steadfast friendship. Musically, Joshua’s tastes range from R&B and hip-hop to Afrobeats and jazz, while his favorite film is The Lion King, cherished for its storytelling and nostalgic family memories.
Joshua’s role models include his parents, who have been instrumental in his growth, with his father’s challenges shaping his life and his mother’s resilience providing strong support. Inspired by his middle school dreams of becoming either an athlete or a historian, Joshua is now focused on becoming an engineer, with aspirations of potentially starting a business in the future. At Virginia Tech, he is set to be a peer mentor and is actively involved in the National Society of Black Engineers. Additionally, Joshua volunteers for PCI events and music at his church. If he could change one thing, it would be to extend the day to 25 hours to make the most of his time.
