"Reach for the moon, even if you fall short you will land among the stars!"

Sarah Jacobs, a sophomore from Bluefield, VA, is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering at Virginia Tech. With a GPA of 3.55, Sarah is passionate about the university's supportive community, distinguished academic programs, and dedicated student body. She values the strong Virginia Tech alumni network, which plays a significant role in creating opportunities for students like her. Sarah’s academic journey is shaped by her involvement in the Galipatia living-learning community, where she fosters a welcoming environment for future engineers, and her participation in the Honors College, which challenges her to explore diverse perspectives.

Sarah’s fascination with aerospace began in middle school, fueled by her dream of becoming an astronaut and walking on Saturn's rings. This passion was further ignited by watching Interstellar, a film that inspired her to delve deeper into the cosmos. Now, she dreams of contributing to the Artemis Project, with a vision of helping humans live on the moon and eventually Mars. Her role models include her aunt, who inspired her love for travel, curiosity, and leadership, and her parents, whose resilience and work ethic have deeply influenced her.

Outside of academics, Sarah enjoys a variety of activities, including baking, hiking, beach volleyball, rocketry, and stargazing. She has a dog named Tori and is the eldest of three siblings, with her older brother being a Virginia Tech alum. Committed to giving back, Sarah volunteers through the Society of Women Engineers Community Service Outreach Committee and previously taught horsemanship and leadership skills to young kids at a local horse barn.

Reflecting on her experiences, Sarah wishes she had spent more time maintaining friendships during the Covid-19 pandemic. She is dedicated to making the most of her time at Virginia Tech, with aspirations to impact the world of aerospace engineering and beyond.
