Matthew Woldemichael is a first-year student at Virginia Tech, pursuing a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a 3.52 GPA. Originally from Woodbridge, Virginia, Matthew thrives in an environment surrounded by great resources and mentors who constantly push him to succeed.

At Virginia Tech, Matthew is actively involved as a CEED mentee and a member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), where he continues to grow both academically and professionally. His goal is to work for a successful company that challenges him to be his best self.

Outside of academics, Matthew enjoys watching sports, playing soccer, going to the gym, and spending quality time with friends and family. Growing up, he dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player, and while his career path has shifted, his passion for the game remains strong.

Matthew’s biggest role model is his mother, whose sacrifices and dedication have been a driving force in his journey toward success. His favorite cartoon character is Eric Cartman from South Park, admired for his sense of humor, and he enjoys listening to R&B music. Remember the Titans is his favorite film, resonating with his love for sports and teamwork.

With a heart for service, Matthew has helped run a non-profit organization that sends clothes to people in need from the Tigray tribe in Ethiopia. If he could change one thing in the world, it would be to end world hunger, reflecting his deep sense of empathy and commitment to making a positive impact.
