Michelle Wyss

Michelle Wyss is from Lorton, Virginia, and is a Junior in Biomedical Engineering with a 3.92 GPA. She says the best thing about being a Virginia Tech Engineering student is that there are so many opportunities to get involved at Virginia Tech and meet other engineers with similar interests. When Michelle was in middle school, she went through a lot of different stages of what she wanted to do – from geologist, to doctor, to detective, to mathematician. Now that she is at Virginia Tech, she dreams of doing research and work involving biomechanics, specifically injury prevention and recovery in car crashes. If she could change one thing, she would like to change the expectation that you need to know exactly what you want to do with your life right after high school or even after college and decide the fate of your future at a young age. 

Currently, as a part of the Dance Company at Virginia Tech, Michelle served in Relay for Life and the Big Event. Michelle participated in the WISE mentoring program her freshman year, which helped her prepare her resume and professionalism skills to start looking at internship opportunities early. She is also a part of the undergraduate biomedical engineering society, which provides opportunities for BME students to go on lab tours and build network connections through social events. 

Michelle shared that her mom is her biggest role model because her mom has worked so hard to be a successful business owner and raised her and her siblings to be hard-working and driven adults. Michelle stated, “She has had many obstacles come before her, but she continues to push through which taught me that you don’t give up when something doesn’t go your way.” Michelle’s favorite film is In the Heights and she enjoys listening to R&B music. Her favorite cartoon character is Linda Belcher, because she is optimistic, makes jokes, and breaks out in songs randomly, which she could relate to.
