Antonio Alonso
Antonio Alonso is from Blacksburg, Virginia and is a junior pursuing a degree in computer engineering with a major in software systems, a secondary focus in machine learning, and a minor in computer science, all with a GPA of 3.66. He says the best thing about being a Virginia Tech engineering student is the vast opportunities and resources available to him. Now that he is at Virginia Tech, he dreams about working with Software and Embedded Systems to make leading edge technology. Antonio also says that if he could change one thing, he would provide everyone around the world with access to public education. He believes that it is very important that everyone has the opportunity to better themselves.
When Antonio was in middle school, he dreamed of becoming an astronaut, which is a bit different from a computer engineer! Now, Antonio is a Peer Leader within the CEED mentoring program which involves mentoring incoming freshmen during the first 10 weeks of their first semester. He also volunteers by having been a part of the Big Plant and has done volunteer service through an organization that he is a part of called the Student Alumni Association (SAA). He plans on taking part in the Big Event which he hopes will start back up again this school year. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, tennis, chess, and running.
Antonio says that one of his role models is his father because he worked hard to get where he is today and Antonio wants to emulate that same behavior. He also mentioned that his favorite cartoon character is Scooby Doo because he is very charismatic and seems great to hang around. In addition, his favorite film is Interstellar and his favorite genres of music are rap and pop.
