Quincy Brooks
Quincy Brooks is from Marriottsville, Maryland and is a senior in computer engineering with a GPA of 3.5. Quincy finds that the best thing about being a Virginia Tech engineering student is being part of a welcoming community. Now that he is at Virginia Tech, he dreams of using his technical and analytical skills to contribute to the nation’s security. If Quincy could change one thing, it would be how subjects are taught and assessed in both high school and college.
Quincy is involved with the College of Engineering through his work on the Dean’s Team and also works closely with CEED through his participation in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). This year, Quincy was elected President of VT NSBE. Quincy has spent most of his time volunteering through participating and organizing Pre-College Initiative Days. During his free time, he enjoys reading, playing piano, writing, and drawing.
Quincy has three sisters and a Maltipoo named Buster. When he was in middle school, he dreamt of being a pilot. Quincy says his role model is Barack Obama because he impacted the way he saw politics and social issues. Alongside his role model, he mentioned that his favorite cartoon character is practically any main character from Avatar the Last Airbender or The Legend of Korra, as he found that each of the main characters were written well and contributed to a complex narrative. Quincy’s favorite film is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and his favorite genres of music are rap, jazz, funk, and latin.
