Jasmine Mendez
Jasmine Mendez, a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech, is not just an exceptional student with a perfect 4.0 GPA but also a passionate individual with a variety of interests. Hailing from Woodbridge, VA, she is a dedicated member of the Virginia Tech Engineering community, which she cherishes for its large and welcoming atmosphere, replete with incredible clubs, resources, and opportunities.
Jasmine's close-knit family includes an older brother, who serves as one of her role models. She admires his unwavering commitment to community involvement and his constant pursuit of personal growth and learning. This mindset has clearly rubbed off on Jasmine, as she actively engages in volunteer work as a Sunday School teacher aid at her home church and assists with an English as a second language class at an elementary school.
In her free time, Jasmine indulges in various hobbies, such as playing musical instruments like the violin and marimba, as well as traveling and listening to gospel music, her favorite genre. Interestingly, she harbored dreams of becoming a pilot and exploring the world when she was in middle school. Now, as a student at Virginia Tech, she aspires to obtain her master's degree and eventually work for an automotive company, all while traveling the globe in her professional capacity, contributing to global company facilities.
Jasmine's dedication extends to her involvement with the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech. She initially joined the Peer Mentoring program as a freshman and currently serves as a Dean's Team member while also holding the position of secretary in the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). Passionate about removing barriers to education, Jasmine dreams of a future where high tuition costs no longer hinder students' pursuit of their goals, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive academically. With her unwavering commitment to her studies, community, and dreams, Jasmine Mendez is undoubtedly a rising star at Virginia Tech.
