Sean Sykes
Sean Sykes is a sophomore pursuing a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech. He hails from Bowie, MD, and takes pride in being a Virginia Tech engineer due to the extensive support system and abundant resources available to him. Sean's GPA stands at 3.45, reflecting his dedication and commitment to his studies.
In his free time, Sean enjoys various hobbies such as hanging out with friends, watching TV, and playing tennis. He also has a beloved dog named Hudson and a cat named Mingus as his pets. When it comes to entertainment, Sean's favorite cartoon character is Scooby-Doo, as he admires Scooby-Doo's love for food and ability to sense when it's time to take action.
Regarding music, Sean's preferred genre is rap. His favorite movie is "Killing them Softly," which captivates him with its storytelling and cinematic elements. When it comes to role models, Sean looks up to his cousin Ben, who is a civil engineer. Ben has been a great mentor and a source of unwavering support for Sean.
Reflecting on his aspirations, Sean's interest in civil engineering, particularly in transportation, has remained strong since his middle school days. At Virginia Tech, Sean dreams of working as a civil engineer in the future, utilizing his knowledge and skills to contribute to the field.
Sean's involvement with CEED (Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity) and the College of Engineering includes being a Peer Mentor for BEST (Black Engineering Support Teams). Additionally, he actively participates in volunteer service, regularly contributing his time to PCI events within CEED and Ujima.
Driven by his passion for diversity in engineering, Sean wishes to witness progress in this field. He believes that diversity plays a vital role in shaping the future of engineering and aims to contribute towards this change.
