"What's meant to be will be."

Ava Johnson is from Calvert County, Maryland and is a senior in Industrial and  Systems Engineering  with a GPA of 3.77. She says the best thing about being a Virginia Tech engineer is the connections and support from the people around her. Virginia Tech has so many opportunities to put yourself out there and make lifelong relationships. The academics are unmatched, and the school makes sure to prepare you for your career.  When she was in middle school, she dreamt of being an obstetrician. Post-graduation, she will be working for Boeing, so she dreams about inventing and designing solutions that will benefit the future as an Industrial Engineer. Ava says that if she could change one thing,  she would end homelessness. She would make sure everyone has a roof over their head and provide any necessities they may need.

Ava is currently involved with the Society of Women Engineers and the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers. She knows that not everyone excels immediately and it is important to understand that everyone struggles. She also volunteers by being a  Member of the Sorority Body Project Peer Education Team. In the past, she has been a Welcome Week Leader and a Hokie Helper.

Ava says her role model is Katherine Johnson because she accomplished so much in her life. She was dedicated to her work and was so passionate about her career. She helped NASA put an astronaut into orbit around Earth and also helped put a man on the Moon. Without her, NASA wouldn't have been able to accomplish these things. Ava has four siblings and two dogs named Zipper and Moxie. She also mentioned that her favorite cartoon character is the Grinch because at first, he is a nasty and mean person who wants to ruin Christmas, but in the end is a changed and caring person who saves Christmas. Ava also shared that her favorite genre of music is Pop, and her favorite film is Luca.
