Eles Jones
Eles Jones is a senior in Computer Science, with a GPA of 3.70, from Alexandria, Virginia. For her, the best things about being a VA Tech Engineer is the abundance of resources and support from the school, the sense of community amongst the students and faculty, and the opportunities that Virginia Tech provides its students in the hopes of building their education, expanding their professional networks, and just the general life prep that students get to experience and learn from. When Eles was in middle school, she dreamed of becoming a soccer player or a neurologist, spurred by her interest in the brain and how its processes affected the everyday life of regular people. Now, she hopes to work as a Software Engineer, developing software and working on projects that give back to the community.
Eles has been part of the Engineering community for a couple years now, beginning her connection by working as a Peer Mentor in 2019 for the Black Engineer Support Team (BEST), in which she helped guide freshman engineering students in the transition into their college education. She has also worked as a teaching assistant for TechGirls, an international exchange program designed to inspire and empower girls to pursue a deeper level of training in technology through hands-on skills development.
Two of Eles’s main role models are her parents, who inspire her with their great work ethic and help guide her through obstacles in her life. She appreciates them for all the sacrifices they have made to help her chase her goals and become successful in her education. Outside of class, Eles enjoys singing in the Virginia Tech Chamber Singers choir, playing soccer, listening to music, and watching Marvel movies. She also enjoys taking the time to spend with friends and explore Blackburg.
