“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." - Matthew 17:20

Deionjalei Miller is a senior in Chemical Engineering, with a 3.54 GPA, and is from Norfolk, Virginia. She believes that the best thing about being a VT Engineer is the support and encouragement she has received from her fellow students, faculty, and staff within her department and the CEED department. She notes that the community has kept her going and has presented her with amazing opportunities like studying abroad, volunteering opportunities, and research. While in middle school, Deionjalei dreamed of being a mentor to young girls, and she has managed that through being a mentor and member of the CEED community. Now, while in college, she wishes to continue with her drive of mentorship and take her goals abroad.

Deionjalei is currently a Supplemental Instruction Chemistry tutor and spent the first part of her college experience as a member of the Galipatia Leadership Team. She recently spent time volunteering for the NSBE High School Mentorship program, whose goal is to create engineering related activities for students to help them better understand engineering practices and fields.

A role model of Deionjalei’s is Iyanla Vanzant, a motivational speaker and celebrated writer who is dedicated to facilitating growth and evolution of human consciousness with her no-nonsense approach in her message and teaching style. Deionjalei has nothing but respect for the powerful woman, seeing her as the perfect mix of touch, transparent, honest, and loving.

Outside of class, Deionjalei enjoys listening to hip-hop music and singing. She also has taken to cooking in her free time. While she does not have a favorite cartoon character, she enjoyed the familiarity that the Proud Family brought to her with storylines that were something she could relate to and laugh at.
