What did you do during the summer?  I'm going to China for the summer for a very cool research project!

Favorite thing about VT:  The sense of community. You will always find a group of people you'll mesh with and you'll always get help when you need it.

Something you wish you knew as a first year student:  I wish I knew that I didn't have to join every club to make my presence known. It was super tiring and didn't allow me to enjoy my first semester as much as I could have.

A fun fact about yourself:  I'm not scared of snakes or needles! Also, I love pineapple on my pizza.

There are benefits in joining support groups like Help Me Help You. To take advantage of study abroad opportunities such as the Rising Sophomore Abroad Program (application closes early in the first semester, don't miss out). Finally, the Roger Chang hype is real.

A fun fact about yourself:  I played the violin in an orchestra for 7 years prior to coming to tech. My favorite sports teams are Hokie Sports, Redskins, Real Madrid, and the Celtics. Last summer I traveled to 6 different countries. My heritage is El Salvadorian.

What did you do during the summer?  I am going to work as a full time nanny this summer, going on a weekend camping trip, and traveling to Louisville to visit a friend.

Favorite thing about VT:  My favorite thing about Virginia Tech is the people that I have met. Every single person I have talked to has been warm and inviting, and I will carry the friends I have made so far in my time at Tech for the rest of my life. My favorite selling point about Virginia Tech is that we are the second happiest campus in the US.

Something you wish you knew as a first year student:  I wish that I would've known how easy it is to make connections in classes and around campus. Professors are very willing to have conversations with you and give you advice about academics, internships and co-ops, etc. Also, it is so beneficial to get to know at least one person in every class so that you can ask them about homework, make study groups, and even become friends.

A fun fact about yourself:  In the future I want to live in Spain for a year!
