Hours: 20 hours/week, 01/10/2023-5/9/2023
Pay scale: Step 12
About the Office:
The Global Engineering, Engagement and Research (GEER) Office in the College of Engineering is responsible for supporting and promoting the international activities of the college, including education abroad and exchange programs for students, international research and faculty activities, hosting international visitors, and international alumni relations.
General Purpose of Position:
The responsibility of the graduate assistant is to provide support for the activities and initiatives of the GEER office. The focus of this position is the development, implementation and administrative support of the office’s Global Ambassador Program and outreach for GEER. These support developing global engineering competencies across the College of Engineering. The position includes coordinating special events and supporting the office’s portfolio of Canvas modules and co-curricular activities.
Job Duties:
Global Ambassador Program (50%)
- Coordinate the office’s Global Ambassador Program, including ambassador recruitment and training
- Coordinate marketing and social events
- Coordinate funding requests, and team building activities to promote global programs
- Coordinate marketing and GEER special events, including Global Education Fairs, orientations,information sessions, and any other events promoting global opportunities
Online engagement (50%)
- Manage and update GEER website in accordance with the office’s communications strategy
- Update and maintain social media outreach
- Create marketing materials for international initiatives
- Other administrative support as needed (e.g. support international visits, respond to GEER email inquiries and link students with appropriate information or assistance)
Required Qualifications:
- A positive attitude
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Outstanding organizational skills including attention to detail
- Time management and reliability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canvas Learning Management System
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively in cross-cultural situations
- Strong interest in engineering education and/or intercultural learning
- Experience with Web Content Management System (e.g. Ensemble) is a plus
- Prior experience in international programs (e.g. as participant in study, work or living abroad)
- Demonstrated skill in editing images and media for educational purposes and creating social media graphics, presentations, posters and documents for outreach
- Customer-service orientation: willingness to listen and adapt to emerging program needs
- Evidence of initiative and past leadership in project-based environments
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Interest and ability to renew assistantship in the following academic year a plus
