Scholarships for Prospective Students
The College of Engineering offers a variety of scholarships to both freshmen and transfer engineering students.
The following scholarships are available to entering freshmen in engineering:
Davenport Leadership Scholarships are $7,000 renewable awards based on academic merit. Recipients of this award must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents. There is a separate application process (in addition to the application for admission) for this award which consists of two stages (see information below). All those invited to submit an application (stage 2) will be notified of the award status by February 21, 2022. This scholarship does not require financial aid (as determined by FAFSA). The General University Scholarship application, Scholarship Central, is not required to apply for the Davenport award, but we encourage any prospective (or continuing) student to also submit this application for potential University-level awards.
- Stage 1: Brief responses to an Online Form must be submitted between November 15, 2021 - January 4, 2022 (deadline one second past 11:59:59 pm EST on January 4, 2022), asking for information about extracurricular activities, leadership positions, and honors and awards, employment (paid or volunteer), and current high school GPA (as reported in last grade report), and current email address.
- Stage 2 (By invitation only): Full application. Following review of initial responses, candidates will be invited by January 6, 2022 to submit a full application.
All other freshmen scholarships, both merit and need based, require completion of the General University Scholarship Application. If you are applying for admission to Virginia Tech, you will first need to complete the admissions application. After submitting your admissions application, you should receive an email from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions with instructions on logging into your Guest Account. After creating your Guest Account, you may login to Scholarship Central 1-2 business days later using the same login credentials.
Awards may be one time or renewable. Announcement of these awards will be made by late February 2022. Email with questions or call (540) 231-7411.
Transfer Student Scholarships
Transfer students from Virginia's community colleges may apply for the Leo A. Padis Scholarships. Padis Scholarships are available only to Engineering Associate Degree graduates of the Virginia Community College System. Awards are $1000 and are merit based.
Applications are available here for new transfer students starting summer or fall 2021. Application deadline is June 1, 2020.
