"Your biggest enemy can end up being yourself. Make sure you're happy."

Yohan Mbuyu, a sophomore pursuing a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering at Virginia Tech, has always been driven by his dream of working with planes in the aviation industry. Originally from Kinshasa, DR Congo, Yohan finds the best thing about being a VT engineer lies in the people and support systems. The friendly and helpful environment fosters a great learning experience for him.

In his free time, Yohan enjoys a diverse range of hobbies, including watching YouTube videos, playing soccer, engaging in flight simulators, and spending quality time with his friends. He particularly finds delight in following the adventures of Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen, a cartoon character admired for his humor and strength.

Yohan's passion for French Rap music reflects his love for the genre, and when it comes to films, "Real Steel" holds a special place in his heart. He draws inspiration from his father, a role model who exhibits kindness, compassion, and a willingness to help others, imparting invaluable life lessons.

In the past, Yohan dreamt of becoming a pilot during his middle school years. Now, as he progresses through his college life at Virginia Tech, he aspires to work in the aviation industry, even if it means not being a pilot himself. Yohan is actively involved with CEED and the College of Engineering, contributing to various summer camps and serving as an officer in NSBE as the secretary for this academic year.

Apart from his engineering pursuits, Yohan dedicates his time to volunteer service, actively participating in activities organized by the Catholic Campus Ministry @VT. He cherishes the opportunity to help others and contribute positively to his community.

If given the chance, Yohan would change his approach to his first semester at VT, desiring to work harder and improve his academic performance during that critical period. Despite the challenges, he remains determined to achieve his dream of making a mark in the aviation world and contributing to the field of aerospace engineering.
