Joshua Streat
"Have no fear of perfection, you'll never reach it."
Joshua Allen Streat is a sophomore at Virginia Tech pursuing a B.S. in Computer Engineering with a 3.66 GPA. Hailing from Chesapeake, Virginia, Joshua values the strong communities within Virginia Tech, particularly the support and opportunities offered by NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), which have been crucial in his professional and personal development.
Joshua has an older brother and enjoys hobbies such as playing the saxophone, creative writing, and listening to music, particularly Rap, Hip-Hop, and Jazz. His favorite film is *Rocky IV*, and although not technically a cartoon character, Luffy from *One Piece* is his favorite due to Luffy's optimistic and resilient nature, which Joshua finds inspiring.
One of Joshua's role models is Titus Cameron, a senior at Virginia Tech and a resident of the Ujima Living Learning Community (LLC). Joshua admires Titus's outgoing personality and positive attitude, and aspires to be a similar role model by the time he reaches his senior year.
During middle school, Joshua dreamed of attending college and becoming either a professor or an engineer. Now, he envisions a future as a Computer Engineer, with aspirations of starting his own engineering firm and using his success to give back to the Black community and other causes.
Joshua is actively involved in the Virginia Tech community, having recently accepted a position as a CEED Mentor for the upcoming academic year. He was also a CEED Mentee and is an active member of NSBE. In addition, he participates in volunteer service through the Ujima LLC, where he was elected Ujima Homecoming King, a role in which he organized community service events and outreach programs for local high schools.
If given the chance, Joshua would like to see a world where everyone can get along, as he believes that the world could achieve much more if people worked together without conflict.
