Jared Torres

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled"

Jared Torres is a junior at Virginia Tech, pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a GPA of 3.4. Hailing from Forest, VA, Jared values the strong support system and driven community he has found among his fellow students at VT.

Jared is a dedicated member of the College of Engineering, serving as an executive board member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and a Student Leader in the Galipatia Living Learning Community. His involvement extends to participating in SHPE’s outreach and service-related events, where he contributes to supporting both his club and the broader community.

Outside of academics, Jared enjoys playing Spikeball on the quad or drill field and making music on the piano. He is also an enthusiastic dog owner, with a pet named Gandalf. His favorite cartoon character is Jake the Dog from Adventure Time, whom he admires for his loyalty and supportive nature.

Jared’s favorite film is Interstellar, due to its great acting, soundtrack, and exploration of space. Inspired by his childhood dream of becoming a pilot and a fascination with the workings of planes, he is now focused on making a meaningful impact in the automotive or aerospace industries.

One of Jared’s aspirations is to improve accessibility to education globally, believing that education is crucial for societal progress and the betterment of future generations.
