Hypatia/Galileo Living Learning Committees

One of the strengths of Hypatia and Galileo is the involvement of upper class students. In addition to mentoring, they also organize and lead the following committees for the communities:

  • Academic support – holding regular study hours to help students with homework, leading and organizing review sessions, hosting events to help with study skills, etc.
  • Communications & Media – create and distribute a weekly newsletter to the community, manage community social media and create promotional videos showcasing the activities of the community
  • Data Management – support VTGEMS (Galipatia Event Management System) app where students can sign up for events and track their attendance records
  • Mental Health – planning and organizing community service activities, plan and organize events related to mental health for student success
  • Outreach – planning and organizing K-12 efforts, including hands-on activities for students to learn about engineering and hosting school visits to campus
  • Professional Development - planning and organizing events with corporate partners and campus partners, such as Smith Career Center, to assist students in preparing for internships and future work skills
  • Social – planning and organizing events for students to interact and meet each other outside of class
  • Studio Design Challenge – plan and organize events in the inVenTs Studio in Hoge Hall giving students the opportunity to work in teams on various projects
  • Studio Training – plan and organize training on all the tools and equipment in the inVenTs Studio in Hoge Hall

  • Course exam review sessions
  • Engineering Expo preparation night

  • FIRST Lego Robotics volunteering
  • Humane Society volunteering
  • Community leaf raking
