Pathways for Future Engineers Pre College Support
Zooming In >> Pathways Summer 2020
When: July 11-25, 2020
Where: Virginia Tech Campus, Blacksburg, VA
Pathways for Future Engineers Summer 2020 Program will kick off on July 11th with 180 first-generation students and 180 Pathways Partners from across the state of Virginia.
Who is a Pathways Partner?
We know that community support plays an important role in supporting students on the pathway from high school to college. Therefore, the Pathways for Future Engineers includes all-expenses-paid programming for a “Pathways Partner”- an adult representative (such as a parent, older sibling, coach, mentor, etc.) from a student's community who agrees to emotionally and mentally support the Pathways participant on their educational journey. The Pathways Partner are invited to accompany the student— all-expenses-paid —on various campus visits. We are excited to connect student's home community to the Virginia Tech community, and the Pathways Partner will play an important role in this. Pathways Partners are invited for weekend portions only of summer programming.
Pre-College Support (Before Admitted to Virginia Tech)
Pathways for Future Engineers includes a number of initiatives to support high school students on the pathway to college. Students may apply to the program as rising 10th, 11th, or 12th graders. Pre-college program components include:
1. Summer Engineering Programs
Through two-week summer programs, Pathways participants gain hands-on exposure to engineering careers through team-based design projects and laboratory activities. Pathways Summer 2020 program is scheduled for July 11th - 25th. More details to come!
2. College Application Support
During summer programs and campus visits, Pathways for Future Engineers provides support for students and families on topics such as financial aid, college applications, SAT/ACT testing, math readiness, admissions essays, and more.
3. Campus Visits
Participants in Pathways for Future Engineers will visit campus one time each semester, engaging with activities ranging from engineering design challenges to the Hokie Spring Football Game!
4. Build Community
Through Pathways, participants connect with current Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff as well as other prospective students from the state of Virginia.
