Alexis Richmond
Alexis Richmond is from Charlottesville, Virginia and is a junior in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Psychology and a 3.70 GPA. Alexis says the best thing about being a Virginia Tech engineering is the amazing opportunities available to become involved in organizations and research as well as the support system she has through the faculty and her peers. Now that she is at Virginia Tech, she hopes to use her skills and abilities to contribute to biomedical research and give back to the community. In the future, if she could only change one thing, it would be to get rid of the discrimination and hatred towards minority groups.
When Alexis was in middle school, she dreamed of becoming a marine biologist because of her fascination with the ocean and marine life. Now, she has participated in multiple volunteer opportunities including the special olympics and the Big Event. The summer before her first semester at VT, she participated in the Student Transition Engineering Program (STEP) and as a freshman she participated in the Hypatia living learning community. She also enjoys hiking, reading, and binge-watching shows.
Alexis shared that one of her role models is her mother because she is very strong-willed and unafraid to advocate for herself. Alexis mentioned that while she doesn’t have a favorite film, she still really likes The Tourist, and says her favorite genres of music are alternative, indie, and hip-hop.
