Featured Researcher: Andrew McCoy, Myers-Lawson School of Construction
Andrew McCoy is the Director of the Virginia Center for Housing Research (VCHR), Professor of the Department of Building Construction, and Associate Director of the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC). McCoy works at the intersection of housing, technology, and construction. He aims to promote affordable and energy efficient housing, by applying technological innovations to optimize the construction and management process, particularly in residential housing construction. He and his group of researchers at VCHR focus on three main topics: housing affordability, housing education, and building technology. McCoy’s work has broader goals of creating a more sustainable and economically resilient society through safe, reliable and affordable housing. He believes it is important for the construction industry to embrace new technologies and to support companies that develop these technologies.
McCoy earned his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Architectural History from the University of Virginia before coming to Virginia Tech for an M.S. in Construction Science and Management and a Ph.D in Environmental Design and Planning. McCoy currently holds the Beliveau Professorship in the Department of Building Construction, has published numerous books and contributed to the database “A Human-centered Approach to Smart Housing Dataset”.
