The Opportunity

Ready to take your engineering skills global? The Rolls-Royce International Internship is a unique opportunity made possible through a partnership between Rolls-Royce, Virginia Tech, and the University of Virginia.

This paid summer internship abroad offers hands-on experience tackling real-world engineering challenges, all while learning from some of the most respected professionals in the industry. As an intern, you’ll work on meaningful projects from day one—and build skills that will set you apart in your career.

The Details

  • A three-month summer internship, May - August, located in the United Kingdom
  • Internship Dates: internship placements are 12 weeks, from mid-May to mid-August each year  
  • Receive university and Rolls-Royce support for your internship experience
  • Internship covers round-trip travel, relocation allowance, competitive intern salary, international travel insurance, and additional benefits
  • Develop your skills and get practical, hands-on experience with a world-class industry leader

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current Virginia Tech student pursuing an engineering degree with current junior status (for a 2026 internship, must be returning to VT in Fall 2026 for your senior year)
  • Engineering majors with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Important Traits

  • Open to a variety of engineering majors: aerospace, mechanical, computer, software, electrical, electronics, systems, or similar
  • Well-rounded life experience – academically, socially, and in any previous work situations
  • Excellent communication skills, a flexible attitude, and strong initiative
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Hands-on experience working on a project (in school or beyond)
  • Involvement in community service
  • Demonstrated leadership ability 
  • Excellent verbal skills and written skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results
