What is Imagination Camp?

Imagination is a hands-on science and engineering summer day camp for rising 7th and 8th graders.

If you get tired of doing the same old thing all summer, then you may want to consider attending Imagination 2017. You will be introduced to the exciting and fun "stuff" we do at Virginia Tech. We have engineers, scientists, and college students who are ready to help you explore the world of technology, engineering, and science--not by watching, but by DOING!

When is the Camp Held?

Monday, July 10 – Friday, July 14

Monday, July 17 – Friday, July 21

You choose which week you would like to attend.

Please note:  Transportation will be provided to and from Roanoke during the second week only (July 17-21).

Who is Eligible?

Rising 7th or 8th graders are invited to apply. Preference will be given to first time applicants.

What Should I Bring?

Wear what you usually wear to school, but keep in mind that some of the labs may be messy. Virginia Tech is a large campus, so you will do a lot of walking - comfortable, closed-toed shoes are a must. You will use our computers and laboratory supplies. Lunch will be provided at one of Virginia Tech's dining halls.

What Happens If I Get Sick or Hurt?

All students are covered by comprehensive accident and hospitalization insurance from the time they arrive until the time they leave campus. The Schiffert Student Health Center on campus is able to handle most problems. Please remember insurance will only cover the time between your arrival to and departure from campus.

When Should I Plan to Arrive and Depart?

Imagination will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  on the Virginia Tech campus.  Transportation will be provided from Roanoke to Blacksburg and return during the second week only (July 17-21).

Who Are Your Imagination Engineers?

Kim Lester, Coordinator for Pre-College Outreach, Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED)
Instructors: Virginia Tech faculty and graduate students
Counselors: Virginia Tech undergraduate students

How much does the program cost?

  • A $150 non-refundable fee will be required for those students who are accepted
  • Should payment of the $150 fee cause undue hardship for an applicant, a number of scholarships are available. It is not intended that anyone be prevented from participating due to financial concerns.
