Virginia Tech™home

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Imagination program has been cancelled for summer 2020.

Why Attend?

Do you get tired of the same old thing summer after summer? If the answer is “yes” then you may want to attend Imagination 2020. You will be introduced to the exciting and fun “stuff” we do at Virginia Tech. We have engineers, scientists and college students ready to help you explore the world of science, technology and engineering . . . Not by watching, but by DOING! You will spend half of your day completing an engineering design project and the other half participating in hands in sessions exploring the many different aspects of engineering.

Who is Eligible?

Rising 7th or 8th graders are invited to apply. Preference will be given to first time applicants.

When Should I Plan to Arrive and Depart?

Imagination Day Camp will host three weeklong sessions:

  • June 29 - July 3, 2020
  • July 20 - July 24, 2020
  • July  27 - July 31, 20200

from 8:30 am to 4:000 pm on the Virginia Tech campus.  Free transportation will be provided from Roanoke to Blacksburg and return during the third week (7/27 - 7/31) ONLY.

What Should I Bring?

Wear what you usually wear to school, but keep in mind that some of the labs may be messy. Virginia Tech is a large campus, so you will do a lot of walking - comfortable, closed-toed shoes are a must. You will use our computers and laboratory supplies. Lunch will be provided at one of Virginia Tech's dining halls.

When can I apply?

The application process is open. Deadline to apply is April 19, 2020. Decisions will be emailed by April 27, 2020.

How much does the program cost?

  • A $150 non-refundable fee will be required for those students who are accepted. PLEASE DO NOT SEND A CHECK OR MONEY ORDER AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION. Should payment of the $150 fee cause undue hardship for an applicant, a number of scholarships are available. It is not intended that anyone be prevented from participating due to financial concerns.
