Imagination
Why Attend?
Do you get tired of the same old thing summer after summer? If the answer is “yes” then you may want to attend Imagination. You will be introduced to the exciting and fun “stuff” we do at Virginia Tech. We have engineers, scientists and college students ready to help you explore the world of science, technology and engineering . . . Not by watching, but by DOING! You will spend half of your day completing an engineering design project and the other half participating in hands in sessions exploring the many different aspects of engineering.
Who is Eligible?
Rising 7th or 8th graders are invited to apply. Preference will be given to first time applicants.
When Should I Plan to Arrive and Depart?
Imagination will host three weeklong sessions:
- June 19 - June 23, 2023
- July 9 - July 15, 2023 (Drone Build & Fly; Residential ONLY)
- July 17 - July 21, 2023
from 8:30 am to 4:000 pm on the Virginia Tech campus. Free bus transportation for residential students to and from Blacksburg will provided for Martinsville (week 1) and Richmond (week 3). Free daily bus transportation will be provided between Blacksburg and the Berglund Center in Roanoke week 1 only. Day and residential options are available for weeks 1 & 3. Residential campers will check in the Sunday prior to camp and check out the Saturday morning after camp ends.
What Should I Bring?
Wear what you usually wear to school, but keep in mind that some of the labs may be messy. Virginia Tech is a large campus, so you will do a lot of walking - comfortable, closed-toed shoes are a must. You will use our computers and laboratory supplies. Lunch will be provided at one of Virginia Tech's dining halls.
When can I apply?
The application is OPEN! Application deadline is Sunday, April 3, 2023.
How much does the program cost?
- Day Campers: $200
- Residential Campers: $700
Note: The second session (July 9 - 15) is residential only and FREE to all participants due to sponsorship from ICTAS, the Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering, MAAP and Wing.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND A CHECK OR MONEY ORDER AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION. Should payment cause undue hardship for an applicant, a number of scholarships are available. It is not intended that anyone be prevented from participating due to financial concerns.
