Virginia Tech Faculty-Led Programs

VT Faculty-Led: Bridges, Builders, and Society

Students explore historical development of bridge systems, recognize the social impact of bridges on communities, and appreciate the aesthetic value of well-designed bridges. Following a spring course, students travel to study design and impact of bridges on communities where the bridges exist.

Number of Credits: 3

Pre-requisite Courses: ESM 2104, ESM 2204 or ESM 3704

Courses: CEE 3954 Study Abroad. This course counts as a restricted elective on the CEE degree plan. The CRN on the timetable in the spring semester always has a note for students about the program.

VT Faculty-Led: CEE Steger Center Semester Abroad

Spend your Fall 2026 semester in Europe at the Steger Center in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland! Excursions around Switzerland, Germany and Italy will be included in the program. Three CEE faculty instructors will teach one mandatory course each while students are in residence at the Steger Center. Classes are generally held four or five days a week and include site visits. Students are encouraged to take their 4th/elective course from one of the courses taught by Steger Center faculty or they can take one online. Students will have opportunities to interact with students and faculty from local universities, and on excursions visit European universities, research centers, and companies. The following courses are planned for Fall 2026:
