Benjamin Davis

Benjamin Davis discovered a piece of what he describes as his sense of purpose at the molecular level.

After being diagnosed with an anxiety and depression order, Davis contemplated quitting engineering. Things changed after he went to Buffalo, New York, through the National Science Foundation’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates program, to sample manure from rural dairy farms. Davis was introduced to molecular biology, into which he’d dig deeper, extracting DNA from bacteria and analyzing it in mind-boggling detail. After joining the U.S. Water Study Research Team in 2017, his sense of purpose was tested as he traveled with fellow members of the team to rural Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria.
