Grand Touring

The Virginia Tech Grand Touring Team is a Competition Senior Design Team with the goal to modify a late model production vehicle to compete in a 12 hour endurance race hosted by the ChampCar Endurance.

What is VT Grand Touring?

The Virginia Tech Grand Touring Team is a Competition Senior Design Team through the Mechanical Engineering Department of Virginia Tech with the goal of modifying a late model production vehicle to compete in an endurance race hosted by the ChampCar Endurance Series at Virginia International Raceway. The 2020-2021 School Year will be the first year of racing the team’s 1999 Honda Civic. The team hopes to place in the top 30 with this vehicle, advancing six spots from last year. The ChampCar World Series offers endurance races that range from 7-38 hours, VTGT will be competing in the 12 hour race at Virginia International Raceway on March 6th, 2021.

Who can join? 

The VT Grand Touring team is a senior design team that accepts underclass volunteers.

Awards

The VT Grand Touring team placed 3rd in class their first year of competing and 2nd in class the second year, 19th overall and winning the Chandler School Sportsmanship Award.
