Project Goal

The ELIXR initiative will enable future intelligent extended reality (iXR) systems: AI-powered context-aware general-purpose computing accessed through eyeglasses. Our objectives are to: 1) develop a fundamental research plan to lay the foundation for future iXR systems, and 2) solidify Virginia Tech’s position as a world leader in intelligent XR—an emerging field that many believe represents the next computing paradigm. We will achieve this by developing a focused research agenda, performing preliminary research, building industry partnerships, and recruiting new talent, setting the stage for a $15M NSF Expeditions in Computing proposal and multiple complementary medium- to large-scale proposals.
