Project Goal

The goal of this project is to establish an interdisciplinary research team to pursue large-scale funding for transforming the U.S. construction industry through automation and industrialization.  Specifically, the team will develop a competitive proposal for an NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC) focused on advancing modular systems, robotics and additive manufacturing, construction digitization,  and supply chain resilience. Through the establishment of strategic collaborations, visits to current ERC’s, and stakeholder engagement, this project will develop a compelling research agenda that addresses declining construction productivity, labor shortages, and resilience challenges while positioning Virginia Tech as a national leader in automated and industrialized construction.
