College Support (Once Admitted to Virginia Tech)

Pathways for Future Engineers also provides support after students are admitted to the Virginia Tech College of Engineering. In-college support includes:

1.  Student Transition Engineering Program (STEP)

STEP is a five-week orientation program for first-year students entering the College of Engineering. Students experience a unique opportunity to network with peers, instructors, and industry representatives in an intensive academic environment during the summer prior to your freshman year.

2. Galileo and Hypatia Living Learning Communities

Galileo and Hypatia bring together engineering students in a residential environment to provide encouragement and support in pursuing a career in engineering. Galileo (men) and Hypatia (women) are for first-year and first-time College of Engineering students with an interest in exploring engineering, making lasting friendships, and achieving academic success. Upper-division leaders live in the community to provide mentoring and support.

3. Rising Sophomore Abroad Program

Pathways participants receive a scholarship to study abroad with the Rising Sophomore Abroad Program (RSAP) for engineering students. RSAP combines a Spring course with a 1 week to 2 week international module abroad in May immediately following the end of the Spring Semester.

4. Internship/Experiential Learning Scholarship

Pathways participants are provided a scholarship to participate in an out-of-the-classroom learning experience, such as an internship, undergraduate research, or independent study.
