Responsibilities

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer for the college and is responsible for providing leadership and support in all areas related to faculty and the matriculation of undergraduate degree seeking students. This includes overall academic planning and assessment, faculty hiring, development and support, enrollment management, instructional and learning support, curriculum development, online learning, academic advising and student support services.

Education

Keith received his graduate degrees from the University of Texas at Austin (MS in 1998 and PhD in 2002). His BS degree was earned from North Carolina State in 1994. All of his degrees were in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering. His graduate research was in precast, concrete box girder bridges (MS) and anchorage of headed reinforcement in concrete (PhD).

Background

In 1995, Keith worked briefly as a bridge engineer for Figg Engineering, Inc. before leaving to pursue a graduate education. After completing his PhD, Keith worked as a lecturer at Penn State University and then Auburn University from 2002 to 2004. From 2004 to 2016, Keith was a full-time faculty member at the University of Wisconsin - Platteville in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering where he taught structural engineering courses and performed research in the area of engineering education. From 2016 to 2020, Keith served as an Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and then Associate Dean for Operations in the College of Engineering, Math, and Science at UW - Platteville. Keith joined Virginia Tech in 2020 as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering.
