Dean Warren Dixon
Warren Dixon became dean of the Virginia Tech College of Engineering on July 10, 2026. An internationally recognized leader in artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous systems, and control theory, he is committed to advancing the college’s impact and global reputation through transformative research, innovative education, and strong partnerships that address society’s most pressing challenges.
Before joining Virginia Tech, Dixon was interim dean of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida, where he served in a variety of leadership and faculty roles since 2004. He spent five years as chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and is a distinguished professor emeritus. A highly cited researcher and fellow of both the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), his work has advanced the development of autonomous systems operating in complex and uncertain environments.
Dixon earned bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Clemson University and a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina, all in electrical engineering.
