Lauren Hatfield

Research Graduate Assistant

Responsibilities

Lauren is a Graduate Assistant for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Engineering.

Education

Lauren received her Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Connecticut in 2009 and her Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of South Carolina in 2011.  She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Educational Research and Evaluation here at Virginia Tech. Her current research projects deal with female Student Affairs administrators' experiences with male hostility in the workplace.

Background

Although Lauren is new to the department, she is in her fourth year as a doctoral student at Virginia Tech.  For the past three years, she worked as a full-time Retention Specialist while taking classes part-time.  To date, Lauren has worked with academically at-risk students at four universities.  These opportunities have allowed her to run a summer bridge program, create a mentoring program, create a faculty mentor program, work with conditionally admitted students, and work with students on academic probation.
