Alaa Abdalla

Responsibilities

Alaa serves as the Graduate Assistant for Programs in the Global Engineering Education and Research Office (GEER). She supports the activities and initiatives of GEER, helps with international programs planning and conducts assessment and research on various of the office’s programs. 

Education

Alaa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University at Qatar. She is currently a doctoral candidate in Engineering Education at Virginia Tech.

Background

Prior to joining GEER, Alaa worked as a teaching assistant teaching introductory engineering classes, a graduate assistant for VTEO designing online courses, and an assessment research assistant. Alaa’s research interests are international education, comparative higher education, and global engineering. She was named a diversity scholar in 2022 by the graduate school.
