Sohan Kale appointed assistant professor in the department of mechanical engineering
Sohan Kale has been appointed assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech. Kale will serve as part of the department’s Bio, Micro, and Nano Systems research focus area.
Kale’s research interests are in the areas of mechanobiology of cells and tissues; continuum thermomechanics; computational mechanics; and multiscale modeling.
Prior to his appointment at Virginia Tech, Kale was a postdoctoral scholar with the Laboratori de Calcul Numeric, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, in Barcelona, Spain.
Kale received the 2017 Stanley I. Weiss Outstanding Dissertation Award, the 2015 Mavis Future Faculty Fellowship from the College of Engineering, and a 2015 Best Poster Award, from the National Science Foundation Center for Novel HVT Materials and Structures.
Kale received a bachelor of engineering with honors in mechanical engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, India, and a masters and doctoral in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012 and 2017, respectively.
